Tauromaquia is one of the most ancient cultures of the Azores, with its introduction and origin lost in the mists of time.
Brought by the first colonists, cattle were initially raised in freedom, roaming the fields and forests, resulting in the development of wild characteristics. This Route portrays the rich cultural heritage of the bull, which has been affirmed and preserved over the centuries.
The aim of this route is to provide a deep understanding of the daily activities that the ganadeiro (cattle rancher) performs in the fields, as well as to explore one of the most rooted traditions on Terceira Island: tauromaquia. Here, visitors will have the opportunity to closely observe the practices and rituals associated with this culture, celebrating the profound connection between the land, the people, and the animals that inhabit it.
