One of the main entry points of the Azores, with a population of around 56,000 inhabitants, and being, in size, the third largest island in the Azores. It is also known as the Lilac Island and for being the religious center of the Azores.
Terceira Island is known for being the amusement park of the Azores, for its festivities and traditions, with a welcoming population and an enviable gastronomic wealth. It played an important role in the establishment and maintenance of the Portuguese Empire, having been capital of Portugal twice.
The island is rich in natural and endemic vegetation, offering magnificent volcanic landscapes on land and sea, in addition to all the natural surroundings. The historical richness is manifested by the many cultural and religious activities, such as the Carnival Balls, the Holy Spirit Festivities, the Summer Festivities, the Sanjoaninas, and many other festivities throughout the year.
It has two magnificent cities, Praia da Vitória and Angra do Heroísmo, which was, on December 7, 1983, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site with enormous architectural and historical wealth. It has a mild climate, ideal for visits all year round.
