Overview

Join us for a fascinating geological tour of Graciosa Island, where the history of the Earth is revealed through stunning landscapes and unique natural formations. This island, designated as a Biosphere Reserve, is a true geological laboratory, perfect for nature and science enthusiasts.

Our journey includes visits to caves, impressive lava tubes, and culminates at the Natural Monument of Caldeira da Graciosa, home to the grand lava cave known as Furna do Enxofre. Access to its interior is through a tower about 37 meters high, featuring a spiral staircase with 183 steps. Inside, you will find a cold water lake and a degassing field consisting of a fumarole with mud and diffuse gas emissions of carbon dioxide, which are released imperceptibly from various areas of the cave floor, giving rise to the name “Furna do Enxofre.”
